International Museum Day 2023: Museums, Sustainability and Well-being

Thursday, May 18, 2023

The Museum of the Bank of Greece is actively participating in the celebration of the International Museum Day for 2023 with the theme "Museums, Sustainability and Quality of Life".

According to the International Council of Museums (ICOM), this year's anniversary is dedicated to bringing museums to the fore "as trusted institutions and important threads in our shared social fabric, able to promote the sustainable development goals by supporting climate actions".
As pointed out in the ICOM resolution On sustainability and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda - Transforming our world (Kyoto 2019), all museums have a role to play in shaping and creating sustainable futures, and they can do this through educational programmes, exhibitions, community outreach and research.

Our Museum, through the specially scheduled for that day guided tours to the temporary and interactive exhibition "Economy and Climate: Handle with care" and the specially designed educational / recreational activities "Green Escape", "Earn your money, saving earth" and "Save your money, saving earth", seeks to "equip" its visitors with knowledge and confidence in the changes required to address climate change.

In more detail, the exhibition Economy and climate:handle with care describes the phenomenon of climate change and analyses its economic impact and the ways available to deal with it, with the aim of informing and actively involving the public in the urgent commitment and mobilisation required to tackle the phenomenon on a global scale.

The specially designed educational / recreational programme Green Escape incorporates escape room practices - which are particularly popular among teenagers - and informs about the economic effects of climate change, underlining that humanity's path to a more sustainable and prosperous future passes through green investments.

The educational game Earn your money, saving earth relates to green employment and the sectors of economic activity it concerns, by presenting facts and data that highlight green jobs as "professions of the future".

Finally, the educational game Save your money, saving earth presents and offers practical advice on the ways in which personal choices in matters related to the environment and natural resources (such as waste management, household energy saving, rational water consumption, or transportation costs reduction) can have a significant money-saving effect.
