Shipping is one of the main sources of wealth in our country and a key pillar of the Greek economy. On the occasion of the celebration of World Shipping Day on September 29, the Museum of the Bank of Greece has organised a thematic tour of specific exhibits included in its Permanent Exhibition that highlight the important role of shipping in the economic, commercial and social life of the modern Greek State.
Landmarks on this route include banknotes, circulation coins and collector coins, maquettes, drawings, casts and dies depicting, among other things, historical personalities and ordinary people, as well as important historical events and figures from antiquity associated with the shipping industry and through their iconography highlight the Greek culture, indicating the continuity of our nation and awakening our national memory.
