DescriptionIn
the "City", structured as a triptych, Athens is easily recognisable from
its landmarks – the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Zappeion Hall and the Fix
brewery are discernible – in a contemporary setting. With a descriptive, yet
abstract vocabulary in the rendering of forms, Vassiliou gives the pulse of the
city in a realistic and miniaturist approach, amid the hues of twilight. The
city is depicted without its people, densely built, with night about to fall,
as suggested by the silvery band of lights at the foot of Mount Hymettus.
