Description
Colour,
light and architecture are some of the constant preoccupations in Yiannis
Adamakos’s art. He gradually shifts towards measured abstraction, typically
working on thematic cycles, each of which reflects his current concerns and
quests. The "Ochre Landscape" is one of his characteristic works, articulated as a
suggestive “landscape painting” in a dreamlike atmosphere, where the artist
seeks to redefine the relationship between space and gaze. For Adamakos, what
matters is an approach to reality through a subjective gaze, in an aim to bring
emotions to the surface. Bright and dark tones, alternating colour intensities
or monochromes, the inextricable relation of light and shade all immerse the
viewer into a peculiar material and emotional space-landscape, which explores
the detachment from the shackles of the tangible world and the adoption of an
artistic quest along spiritual or even existential paths.
